I have been sent AUDI TPI 20050077/3 which is specific to my TDI Ultra model however I suspect this may also affect others. It's included in this post as a dropbox link.

Basically, the EGR has a cooler in its core and this can become clogged, dropping the pressure going INTO bank 1 causing the error seen. It's enough of an issue for AUDI to release the TPI about it anyway and blame it on a 'driving profile'...

Hope this helps some people fault find at least!

Getting my car back today after the new EGR cooler has been fitted and the garage are reporting no errors now so time will tell!

Also, a new EGR cooler was something like £385 as opposed to £1,250 for a new DPF for mine. That's before labour however which was 10 hours!

Do you know what the Ash Mas figure is and was before being reset after DPF cleaning?

    The oil ash?

I did look at the figures after replacing the sensor, all the figures looked very similar to when I checked before replacing the sensor. Apart from the soot level went to 20g from 15g. But then it went down to 15g after driving it a short distance.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I've got the same issue on my A6 2014 2.0 TDI Ultra.

Not long after buying my A6 C7 (CNHA) the EML came on with code P2002. I bought a genuine one from Audi, and had the garage replace it and send the adaptation command - note that there are two pipes connected to the sensor, but one pipe is short and reads from atmosphere. EML went off, and I've been driving around a couple of days with no issues. However I drove about 70 miles down to MK today, and then 70 back, but on the way back the EML came on again with the same code - P2002.

When replacing it, the garage said the tailpipes are clean which suggests the DPF is working as expected, however I've never seen a regeneration light come on, but have heard the fans on full power which I believe happens when it is regenerating? Should I always see a light come on when it is regenerating?

When the EML was coming on previously (I was clearing it for a little while whilst waiting to get to the garage with the new sensor), and today when it came on, it seemed to be when I was in sports mode. Is this and odd coincidence, or does that point to something else at fault?

The dpf light only comes on if the filter needs a forced regeneration. In normal operation the only way you know it is regenerating is a higher idle speed and the engine fans running when you switch off, if it is in 5he middle of a regen

With ref to regen, unless you get the message that a regen is needed, there is no light when it is happening. You will notice a slight drop in power and a rise in tickover rpm from 800 to 1000 if it has not finished when you switch off then the fans run. Hope this assists.

I will report back this week with better updates.

But basically, I had third party warranty on the car. So after replacing the cheap DPF sensor myself, and adapting it myself with VAGCOM, and with it not solving the problem (like the OP) and doing a forced regen (didn't work), I decided to use the warranty. The warranty have been a real pain in the butt, refusing the repairs, but after complaining big time I managed to get repairs authorized. I also checked all DFP parameters myself and all looked absolutely fine. The car was doing auto REGEN at regular intervals as per the diagnostic information. I tried to force regen but it would't work, apparently it doesn't work if its not full.

Unfortunately its been in and out the garage for about 2 months. During those 2 months its mostly been with the garages, so have been without this car for so long. The first garage decided to do a regen, and said it solved the problem, picked the car up and the same day the light came on again. Took it back, garage did a regen again the same day I took it back and I went all the way back to pick it up again. The next day the light came on again, called the garage who said it needs the DPF cleaning and they can't do it. So I got on the phone to warranty again and they gave me other "specialist garages" I can take the car to. So booked in with one of them and they've had it for ages. Its not quite clear what work is being done, I will find out this week, I hope its not a DPF deep clean, because it wont solve the problem.

I suspect either a faulty DPF or a faulty egr cooler.

As for your problem, its just a coincidence your light came on in sports mode. And you need to change your garage, I find it funny that they came to the conclusion your DPF is fine by looking at your exhaust pipe. A proper mechanic has the real diagnostic tools to check all the parameters.

Anyway, this is not a cheap or easy fix, and i'll report back soon with updates.

If you have a new DPF I strongly advise against an aftermarket one. We did one on a 2013 A6 2L TDI using a certain brands premium unit and it drove us potty. After replacing the pressure sensor three times we ordered another DPF under warranty and still had the same issue, in the end we gave up and had the old ones damaged EGT thread repaired and sent it to DPF Clean Team in Hinckley and it has been fine since. I spoke to the manufactures tech chap and he looked at his files and found there were 17 of them that had been returned under warranty not including our two. If it is an original DPF, if it is cleaned properly it will be fine, DPF Clean Team have saved some for us that had been blocked solid and have never let us down.

I agree with you Crasher, I have also heard stories about non original DPF's. They use inferior parts to build it and the 'precious metals' inside are in less quantity/quality to an original DPF. A non original DPF also doesn't last anywhere near as long as an original DPF. My neighbour was all smug at the fact he bought a aftermarket DPF for £300 for his bmw, instead of £2000 for an original. I will be secretly laughing when his car is blocked though. I told him to go original.

I don't believe they changed the DPF though on the A6, I believe they deep cleaned it. Although, why they needed to do that.. I don't know? the figures were all perfect for the DPF on the diagnostic machine. And if it was blocked, it wouldn't be doing auto regen on its own. Also it would probably blow the turbo over time. The OP has had this issue since 1 year ago almost, im sure if this issue was a blocked DPF we all would be in trouble driving around with it blocked.

I am convinced it is nothing to do with the DPF. The fault code/s are misleading..a red herring. My gut says its EGR cooler at fault.

The cars back from the garage today BTW. So far so good. They wouldn't issue a invoice as they said all works have been paid for by warranty. And I couldn't speak to the boss that was there as he was out. So i've emailed them asking what they've changed/done EXACTLY.
When I briefly spoke to the boss before picking the car up, he said something about the DPF was sent off for deep cleaning, the DPF sensor was replaced (even though I did that already) and the EGR cooler was replaced. But I honestly don't believe warranty paid for all this, so im going to get confirmation in writing via email to confirm exactly whats been done.

    EDIT:

    So..

    DPF was cleaned.
    DPF sensor replaced (again).
    EGR replaced.

Light has no appeared for 5 days now. SO it looks fixed.

I'd say the problem was EGR cooler. The garage paid £170 for a new one apparently? does that sound right to anyone? I thought this part was £1200 new???
