Hi there, Hoping someone might be able to help. I have a 2007 B6 Passat estate and one of the mirror glasses fell off the other day. As a result I removed the heated pad and unplugged the two connectors. The mirror heating hasn’t been working for quite some time on both wing mirrors so I thought I would take the opportunity to check why. Having put my multimeter across the connectors I’ve discovered that I have 7 to 8V showing at all times (on both mirrors) even with the ignition off and all switches turned off including the one in the door and the rear view dimister. Is this normal and if not do you do you have any suggestions why am I be getting power at all times. Would have expected there not to be any voltage with ignition off. Many thanks.

    Strange one

The heater usually only works if the temperature is cold and the frost symbol comes on

Also, the switch for moving the mirrors, if its not in the middle, then the mirrors wont heat. So maybe you can put the switch in the middle from moving mirrors, usually there is a symbol like the the rear heated back window

I would also look to see if the mirror is wired up correctly, checking the wiring from the chassis to the door is not damaged, shorting wires. You are looking for chaffed wires and green gunge

Failing all that, maybe the door switch for the mirrors/ heated glass is faulty or indeed a relay isn't switching off ……………………………. or been bypassed. Some people cant wait for the mirrors to defrost when they start the car in frosty weather
