    Hi everyone,

    Audi A6 2008 automatic gearbox (6 speeds).
Yesterday the gear stick got locked in P and the lights on the panel were flashing. Took the car to the repair shop and they run the diagnosis. Everything working without problem, the car had several errors (ABS, gearbox, etc) and, according to the mechanic, the lock of the stick is a protection mechanism. After a reset, everything was flawless, tested the car all afternoon and nothing. His opinion is that there seems to have been a voltage drop in the system, but he could not explain it. Or alternatively, the electronic control unit is gone. As soon as I got home, the stick got stuck again.

Additionally, the car is making a huge rattling noise when starting. This problem appeared 2 months ago, I went to the garage, they said it was the starter. They have replaced a component (the reel??) and the car was as new, absolutely no noise. This week the noise is back.

The mechanic says the car needs a new clutch kit, without any doubt and that it has to be replaced soon. Talking to another mechanic he said not even think about it because if it was the clutch kit (flywheel?) problem the noise would be much worst when turning the ignition off and that in his opinion is the starter again.

My questions and, I am aware that you can only give limited advice as you haven’t seen the car, are:
    a) Do you think the noise when starting the car (even in the absence of noise when turning the ignition off) can be related to the gearbox?
    b) Can the locking of the gear stick be originated by any other issue than the electronic control unit?
    c) anything else that comes to your mind!

    Thank you!

    PA

It does sound like the dual mass flywheel has failed but the gear lever sticking in park can be down to a faulty brake light switch.

    Hi again,

    1) Dual mass flywheel has been replacing and no more noise.
    2) gearlevel: we replaced the brake light switch and the problem persists. The annoying bit is that the mechanics tries it for hours and no issue, we bring the car home and it happens again. Any other suggestion? When the car was connected to the diagnostic tool, this time there was no error.

    thanks a million!

If it is the 6 speed gearbox its tiptronic zf6hp19 (quattro) . It does not have dual mass. Most common issues are converted and valve body

I assumed he had made a mistake and him saying the DMF has been replaced confirms it.

The flywheel (i am guessing it is the name) was replaced. my problem now is with the gearbox stick that in one out of 20 times gets stuck. The mechanic says that there is absolutely fine and he thinks it maybe something in the mechanism of the gear stick itself.

Guys I am desperate. Any help will be appreciated.

We have tried another gearbox ECU and the problem persists. The mechanic says the errors seems to point to the main ECU (which I think has to be replaced in Audi) but he says that he thinks it is the gearbox stick system because when he puts it in park it doesn't release the keys, we have to give it a little push forward and then yes it releases the key. Any advice?

    Error code p0607.

    Thanks in advance
