First time this happened to me was at a petrol station where a copper was jet washing his X5 and I was crawling about in the boot (looking for the release pull) which was stacked out with some spare wheels, whilst wearing a hoody. Must have looked very dodgy.

My dealer replaced the solenoid as a matter of course, but unfortunately that didn't resolve the problem. The next time it went in the tech shaved off some of the rubber at the top and bottom of the inside of the flap. This would normally cushion the closure, so now it possibly bangs a bit more but never sticks. Previously it was temperature dependent, so I had to carry a trim tool around to lever it open.

So the first fix was a waste of time and resource as they didn't consider the problem - just applied the default fix. The next guy used his head, probably took a fraction of the time and didn't damage the car. Problem solved.

the fix I found on mine A6 C7 from 2011 is slightly different. While the car is open - pressing unlock on the key once makes click sound behind the flap (in addition to click in every door) . Then pressing the flap will open in as it should be. The issue seems to be with central locking mechanism for the flap in my case, that it does not work on first go. Emergency pull never worked..
