I've just noticed that my 2011 golf engine check light does not light up when car is in ignition.

I suspect the previous owner may have removed the bulb from behind the instrument cluster. No idea why because it drives spot on without any fault codes.

Is it possible to just insert a new bulb? Or will I have to solder a new bulb on?

If it is as simple as pulling the instrument cluster out and putting a new bulb in, does anybody have some sort of a rough guide.

I think you'll find these are LED's soldered into the pcb. Contact a repairer such as BBA Reman. Are you sure there are no codes logged in the ecu, there could be a standing fault that does not affect driving

Oh too bad that the LED's are soldered on :/ will just have to leave it the way it is if that's the case.

I have scanned the car several times with a vag com and there are 0 faults. Quite strange. Maybe the bulb actually died out and it wasn't removed.

Could well be the case, only trouble is that the light should come on, then go out when engine started as part of the MOT test. This would be a major fail under 2018 test rules. Check mot standards for info.

Didn't know it would be a MOT failure.
    Thanks for the heads up.
