    Hi all,

Since purchasing my 58 plate 2.0 tdi a few weeks ago, I've had the ABS pump changed but the garage can't, as yet, seem to re-code the replacement.

They said they'll get it sorted 'soon' and I can use the car in the meantime as everything works as it should. Problem is I'm now driving a car with no speedo, reduced power steering, no reverse sensors, no aircon, no mileage or trip meter, the engine warning light on, the glowplug light flashing, no tone when engaging reverse gear and the fuel warning light randomly nags me. Apart from these things everything is just dandy.

My question is, is the garage able to employ some boffin with a plug in device to eradicate these glitches or should I just 'accidently' drive over the garage proprietor and blame the accident on his shoddy workmanship?

    Cheers.

Ps, if anyone out there has the equipment and know-how and wants to earn a good drink, I'll pop over to you at your convenience (should the garage fail me).

There is more going on there than just ABS coding, something is upsetting the CAN BUS unit. I suggest you get it to a VAG specialist who at least has full VCDS but this may not get you out of trouble as VCDS cannot always deal with this problem on models with the so called MK60 EC1 system. To do these I have to use the VAG system ODIS but to reduce customer costs I have recently bought VCP which promises to deal with this issue specifically but I have not had the opportunity to try it yet.

    Thanks for the reply.

I 'sort of' get the gist of what you're saying in that I should have stuck with my Focus!

This VCP device you've bought, if my garage can't sort the car could I bring it to you to do and if so what sort of cost are you looking at?
I can't keep driving the car as it is and I'm beginning to doubt that the garage will even contact me to take my car back to them. Hindsight eh, pfffttt.

By the way, taking it to a VW garage would be beyond my means.

Not necessarily, I was up at my sister in laws a few weeks ago and when as a passenger in her CMax I noticed her ESP light was on and guessed it would be the same problem with the pump we get as it it is the same design, her local garage quoted her £1k+ and now I am looking for a Yeti for them.

    Update:
The garage have put the old unit back on and deleted the glitches. Everything works as it should again although I'm expecting the original fault to return before too long (the abs and traction control lights showing).

I'm now seeking someone competent enough to do the job properly without ripping me off.

    I'm in B'ham btw.

You need to start by having the fault properly analysed. Contrary to what you think, very few garages will actually rip you off. You may feel it when you look at the bill but I can assure you most grease monkeys earn every penny of what they charge, it is an evil job these days as cars have become so complicated, difficult to repair and require huge investment in equipment often specif to individual makes, it's quite scary! When I had been doing this a decade, the only computer you had in your car was your phone, IF you had one!

If it's only them two lights showing. Nine times out of ten it's only going to be a wheel speed sensor or wheel bearing. I have a golf mk5 and last year those two lights popped up and it was the rear right speed sensor,

I'm just assuming it's the abs unit because when the RAC bloke scanned it it showed '16352 Control Module'.
Next time the lights appear (its actually three -including the flashing handbrake symbol light), I'll check the wheel speed sensors if that's what you reckon it could be. Should be somewhat cheaper anyway.

    Thanks for that.
