Yesterday on the way to work the glow plug started to flash and the car went in limp mode. Got to work stopped the engine, restarted it and all Ok. Stopped by Audi dealer on the way home, show them the picture and the advice was: it could be just an one off clinch. See how it goes and if it happens again bring it back to us. Hmmm... not very reassuring. The car is a 2013 Allroad diesel. Any ideas what this could be?

I had this EXACT problem last week. I called the dealer (Lincoln Audi) who put me in touch with the Roadside Assist team. They arrived and ran a diagnostic on the car. It turned out a sensor had gone which he didn’t carry. He followed me home and came back the next day to fit the part, located towards the back of the engine on a metal bracket.
Luckily, my car was just inside its 3 year warranty, so I didn’t incur a charge. The engineer suggested there was an article on this, so it may be a common problem.
    I hope that helps.

Probably egr valve or cooler, had the same last year and it turned out to be a leak in the cooler. What mileage has the car got?

I would point to the EGR as well? I had exact same symptoms on my VW cc . Do you have VCDS to check the code?

That's interesting... Did the warning sign on the dashboard go away once you stopped and restarted the engine?

For me, yes. But the next day it was back straight away. I’m on 45k miles.
