The air con is loosing gas, and getting warmer until eventually failing roughly every 3 weeks, so it has a small but significant leak.
Does anyone know of a common faulty seal or component to look at first, before stripping a lot of car down to locate all the components for leak testing?

Get an aircon specialist to look at it not a Kwikfit cowboy someone who knows what they are doing, you need a specific amount of refrigerant and oil which should be downloaded into a vacuum and measured. Not a diy task.

Most common is the condenser. Like bill said need to use a specialist. They can normally find the leak quite quickly as they have special glasses to see where the leak is as the oil has some fluorescent properties.
