I had a Passat in today with the sameish engine, she ran it very low on fuel, it coughed, she refilled it and it now runs terribly with the idle all over the pace and fluctuating rail pressure, I think the high pressure pump has died. Worst thing is we only did a cam belt in the summer and now it has to come part again. Modern low emissions engines, especially diesel, do not make sense.

Mmm, this is really tricky. My car idles fine and (for the most part) drives fine too. Starts well and power delivery is good.

As stated previously, I've changed the lift pump, fuel filter, pressure sensor and the valve atop the hpfp.

I don't want to try changing the hpfp (at great expense!) For it not to be that.

I'll just have to do some logs and maybe post up results/videos.

Thanks for the help so far crasher 😉

Embarrassingly I have just noticed it is an A5 sportback, not a Passat, time for new glasses! I have not had any time today as I have been working on handing a project car back and after this ham salad baguette I have a new Golf R to remap so a bit later I will look deeper into the unstable fuel pressure
