Does anyone know if my car will fail MOT for having a turbo issue its a BKD 2.0 TDI 140. Problem is it will intermittently cut out under load I was planning to rebuild or replace the turbo myself but haven't had the time to do it yet and i have MOT next month.

I haven't noticed it using alot of oil or anything and most of the time it drives ok i'm just wondering if it could cause an issue with emissions? i fully plan to replace it anyway but I don't really have the time at the moment and wondering if i could just sort it out after MOT or if it will need to be done.

Excess smoke or fault lights on the dash are an instant no no, other than that you need professional advice.

Just thought i'd update this for anybody interested the car went through MOT just fine, out of interest has anyone on here tried rebuilding their own turbo? i've seen kits on ebay to rebuild with a new turbine part for about £60 and considering giving it a try rather than buying a whole new unit.

Have you got a fault code ?

Sounds like overboost limp mode caused by sticking vnt so just requires cleaning .

Yeah can’t remember what the code was now I’ll check it when I get chance, it was an overboost condition though. The light only comes up after the turbo cuts out over 2-3 times on a run so I’ve just been clearing the light off for now, usually the turbo cuts under load like when climbing a steep hill
