Automatic gearbox

Having owned a 51 plate 130bhp 5 speed manual for almost 13 years and never really had any issues i have the opportunity to buy a well looked after top spec 1.9 with an auto gearbox for next to nothing. I am happy with everything else mileage is high at 210k with FSH but mine has done 270k without issue so not worried about mileage. The question is are there any issues with an audi auto gearbox around this year. My manual is still as sweet as a nut and didnt want to saddle myself with a gearbox cost on a £1,000 car. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If the gearbox has never been serviced with a filter and oil change then 200k is a bit late, better off not messing with it.
But defo drive it, look for jerky downshifts and late/lumpy/sluggish feeling up shifts.
On the hunt for my C5 I drove a 4.2 auto with a very suspect box, was all kinds of lumpy up and down, was just what I was looking for but the tiptronic box is not cheap to have fixed.
