Afternoon all. I have a sportline blue motion 1.6tdi estate with start stop. I havenít had the car very long (few weeks) and still getting used to the car.

I get the a in a circle with a line through it. Iíve tried turning it in and off but doesnít seem to help. I do long journeys so I would of thought the battery is kept charged as I donít have starting issues or anything.

Car has 51000 and full history plus that emissions recall done but my dpf regenerates a lot of the time (booked into VW)
Any clues would be a great help.

    Ryan

There are fuses for Start/Stop Operation Button (E693). Do you have a fuse & relay layout? PM with your email (providing it not the free ones yahoo/gmail as they don't accept large files) if you want mine.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

Okay Iíll have a look for the fuse. Do you know where the fuse is located as thatís an easy first task.

I have a yahoo email address which is a shame and a gmail also.

I donít have access to a vcds but itís on the purchase list. So it might be a week or two before I can get any closer to this. As much as I like the start stop I wouldnít use it as itís extra wear on curtain items which is rather then wear out at a normal rate. Itís the fact it doesnít work which is annoying.

    Many thanks

A fault code read should never be looked at as the be all and end all of the diagnostic processes, there may not even be any relevant codes stored or there could be codes which look unrelated. There can be all sorts of reasons what the stop/start plays up, a few weeks ago we had this on a Touareg but it was a wheel speed sensor problem which was quite obvious and two weeks ago it was very subtle being a faulty clutch pedal switch on a late Octavia 2. Also a weak battery is a common reason as with a Q7 yesterday but a full global scan code read of all the cars systems print and full clear, test drive and read again is the only way to approach this problem with any degree of accuracy and even then some Measuring Blocks work looking for value errors may be needed. One thing about this about Stop/Start that you touched on was very pertinent, even if it does work it doesnít work, if you get my meaning, it is just an EU box ticking excercise to keep politicians happy and get environmentalists off their back until they move onto the next cause cťlŤbre.

Stop start not working that's a good thing .

Dpf will be regenerating more post emissions update as egr is spending more time operating thus open causing incomplete combustion and incompletely combusted fuel molecules are soot .

Took the car into VW and they had a look but couldnít find a fault. They also rebalanced the injectors. Idle judder has gone but dpf still regenerates and start stop still doesnít work so Iíll be sending the car back again I think.

Ask them to give you the DPF Ash Mass and Soot Loading figures, better than that, get a keen VAG specialist to do it instead.
