My driver side door mirror was taken out by a skip lorry, breaking the metal parts inside, so I need to replace the entire unit. I cannot afford an insurance claim (cannot prove the skip guy actually did it) and cannot afford to have audi replace it for me, so thinking of buying off the internet (Original Aussenspiegel rechts Audi A6 4F 4G 4G1857410M Mythosschwarz | eBay) and fitting it myself.

Has anyone done this? Do I have to take the door card off, or is it more straight forward than that? Have been unable to find any info or guides online, and don't want to cause any more damage!

    Many thanks for any advice.

Yes the door card needs to come off. Then you can remove the plastic trim covering the bolts and unplug the mirror from the door control module. Make sure you get the right mirror for your car, side assist, 360 cameras, memory, folding, auto dimming etc etc. Dont get the one you have linked to as its for LHD and it wont adjust to the same 'field' that a rhd version can.
The mirror is not expensive itself but the glass is depending on what you have already
