You will need 5x100/M14 to 5x112/M14 spacer adapters and these are going to be at least 15mm thick so that thickness has to be subtracted from the ET (offset) of the wheel you are using and the total will become that wheels effective ET. A typical Golf 6 17 inch wheel is ET 54 so we need to know the specs of your new wheels. A typical Golf 4 17 inch wheel would be ET38 so if you subtract the thickness of a typical adapter you end up with ET23 which is way off but it all depends on what the new wheels specs are.

    Alan,
You need the part number or look for the ET figure which should be stamped into the rear of the wheel spokes.

That is on the wheels that don't fit. Do you need the numbers on the golf mk6 as there just standard 16" alloy wheels mate

Can you post some pics of the markings and close ups of the front and back of the hub?

That won't help as the brakes have nothing to do with the wheel hub (apart from holes lining up). Cut your losses and sell them and get the correct size.

That is what I was inferring and trying to explain in my first reply to you, the ET you have and the ET you need are wrong without spacers never mind with and you cannot reduce the ET, only increase it as you have, these wheels are not going to work.
