When driving if I turn my handbrake on it engages and then says there is an issue. It will not release either by presssing the button or trying to drive off. I have to restart the engine in order to release the handbrake.
I have had both rear calipers fail due to the brake motor and know this is something different.
I'm about to try disconnecting the battery but does anyone know what else it could be?

    Thanks.
I did try my OBD reader but that didnt pick anything up. I'm assuming I have to take it to a garage?
After doing a bit of reading apparently this can also happen if brake pads are low so I will inspect them before I pay for a diagnostic

Not on a 3C, there is no brake pad thickness feedback.

Cheers. Might just run the risk of ordering a new switch or nip to the scrap yard tomorrow and grab one

Needs to be read by a VAG capable diagnostics tool as a majority of basic ODB readers cannot read the modular fault codes stored by VAG ECUs. A higher spec tool is required such as VCDS (VagCom), VAS or more professional hand held units normally in the £100 to £200 price bracket or above that are known to be able to query the required fault detail in VAG cars.
