    Hi I have a 61plate very scirocco 2.0 gt
I took it to the garage last week because the emissions light was on and they said it was the egr valve, ok so I had a new 1 fitted but since I’ve picked it up it has a load rattling noise when I start it up only last a couple of seconds, also it has a clunking noise when I turn the engine off, but it only does this when it’s cold, as soon as it gets to temperature it doesn’t make the noise and the car runs fine and the ignition light has gone off,
Is it normal for a new egr to make this rattling noise? Does it need running in or should I take it back to the garage? Thanks Ben

A diesel I assume? That suggests to me that the DMF is now rattling because the V57 flap in front of the EGR valve is now working when it wasn’t so it may have been jammed and they cleaned it whilst it was off and now it works OR it could even be the other way around and the flap was working and now it isn’t, it would certainly seem that the new EGR valve has unmasked a hidden fault with the DMF.

DMF rattle is still a huge problem, we have done two Golf 6’s today.
