So just catching up on the days news and see this in the inbox from WhatCar.

The Q8 is open for orders

2018 Audi Q8 revealed – price, specs and release date - What Car?

I think I quite like it, imagine it in all black with black pack...

But but but what I’m not sure about is why? It’s another 5 seater, a little smaller than the Q7 (length) but granted more sportier looking & puts it in to another category of competitors cars.

Hefty price tag but don’t think it’s one I’ll go out to get to replace the Q7.

However I bet when I see one in the flesh in all black that could all change

(And it’d be bog standard spec with @andyhud007 hired to retrofit everything )

Damn! Nice post Nemo, I didnt realise it was out so quickly

I like it, but I dont like the fact its only a 5 seater... its more like a Q5 then in terms of size perhaps?

I havent tried the touchscreen layout on the new A6/A8 yet but it looks good, but I just think "finger marks!"

Still, I'm sure on a set of 22's it will look rather tasty

    Thanks for sharing mate

Ahh I was being chauffeured about today in the new A8 - sublime car, Uber quiet and umm was very economical in Sport mode 🤯

The touchscreens - yes could see fingerprints all over it, kind of ruined it for me but it’s tough as they’ll all have them, so would need to keep a nice microfibre cloth inside the car at all times

I’ve read that it’s fiddly to use the bottom screen but I’m not sure without trying and driving but seemed to look ok and big enough to hit the right part of the screen.

The VC looked much sharper and crisper than our ones - should’ve taken some pics but didn’t...maybe Thursday if I get the A8 treatment again

Reading the stuff it’s slightly shorter but slightly wider than the Q7 - so a Q6 perhaps?

I think it looks good and I really like the new front end, the SQ8 will look absolutely brilliant (or the RSQ8?!?!).

I know Audi have to move with the times but I really, really don't like having to use a touch screen for the controls. It distracts from driving and with the best will in the world, IMO you are not going to ever get to the point where you can use it intuitively, and not end up hitting the wrong "button" on the touch screen. The rotary wheel/button combination on the MMI and BMW iDrive are far easier to use...this is precisely why I have never bought a Range Rover.

MY16 Passat Bluemotion GT, Reflex Silver, 19s, only a few toys.

+1 my previous two cars have had touchscreens (one from 2005...) and I always found them fiddly to use. Because you are generally in a moving environment you have to concentrate quite hard - and divert your eyes - to guide your finger to the right buttons. That makes it cumbersome and less safe IMHO. And the screens get greasy and difficult to see especially in sunlight. Progess eh! Better voice command is the way to go ultimately I expect.

Yep, not sure I can buy a car with touchscreens. Just saw the new X5 pics and much prefer how they’ve done the dash. VC looks a bit Tesla-like.

Over the air updates will be a big selling point for one of the major manufactures if they can get their act together.

This is interesting, I absolutely detest the stupid track pad thing and rotary dial when I am trying to input navigation and make phone calls. It's great for whizzing through media, but the trackpad takes ages to recognise handwriting, or gets the letters wrong, and I have to join a lot of conference calls in the car so trying to type in the access code on the rotary dial is a nightmare (using the speller function), I much prefer a touchscreen that I can just jab the numbers in on.

Ditch it altogether for navigation! Use voice, it’s great. If going to a place rather than address use “online destination <name of place>”

Just got back from Isle of Man and was using it all the time to find restaurants, ferry ports etc

I agree with SrbSq7 on this too. Voice for Navigation everytime. Hit the button, wait for the beep and say "Online Search XYZ" , e.g "Online Search Bluewater Shopping Centre". It goes off online and grabs it and you say "yes" to accept it. Job done. I never use the touchpad for writing anything

However +1 on conference call IDs.. like you I do that a lot too and opening the speller and jogging the dial over to the numbers is a pain
