So I've done about 8,000 miles and got an AdBlue/DEF warning the other day, it said I had 1500 mls range left.

I had noticed my local Esso garage selling this stuff for £10.49 per 3.5ltr or £19.99 per 10ltr, which kinda sounded expensive to me. So whilst I was passing Morrison's yesterday I took the opportunity to fill up with diesel (£1.33/ltr - blimey when did it suddenly go up in price, I'm sure it was £1.23 not long ago), they were selling 3.5ltr for £7, so I bought two and the warning has gone now, but it still seems like this stuff is quite pricey for what it is.

Does actual real wee work because if it does I might start storing my own like one of those extreme hoarders you see on the telly!

Haha.. I heard its possible, but can't say I've tried!

Yeah that sounds pricey. I get mine from Amazon (no idea if its good or not but the car hasnt complained)

CleanAirBlue Adblue 20L Can With Spout: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Price has gone up a little. I got this same one for £17 for 20ltr. Only because there is no AdBlue filling pumps near me at the moment so its cheaper to just have it delivered to my door.

p.s Yeah, so fuel prices gone up on the news this morning!

Yeah think I'll order in advance on line next time, noticed it's a lot cheaper on ebay, although could be full of farmers selling cows wee or something!

Any HGV garage usually has an ad blue pump at 69p a litre just use a sealed container and keep away from water. Yep it's based on wee and crystallises when wet.

It is a con, even at the filling stations.

I work for a large logistics company and we buy in bulk at under 30p a litre, so the £2-3 per litre plastic bottles is crazy.

It was actually sheeps wee that was used to start with but now it is synthesised, I imagine “taking the wee” from a sheep is difficult..... The reductant, as it is known, consumption is a bit of a long story on the 4M, they designed in a tank which turned out to be too small to last a Longlife service interval so they turned down the dosage to keep the yanks happy, trouble is this got caught up in the great NOX hoo hah a few years back and they had to reprogram the dosage to make the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) unit work properly so now they drink too much reductant. Don’t be tempted to put in anything other than approved Ad Blue, we are already seeing damage to systems by people adding God knows what (I shudder to think) and water is a common one but it causes corrosion and wrecks the system which can cost thousands to sort out.

I got my last lot done as part of service FOC (I know it’s not really FOC with the amount they charge for service)

But I did get a 10l container from them for £13-14 IIRC...however believe it’s gone up in price there.

Audi also charge a fixed price of something like £1.25 / l for them to fill it.
