    Hi
    I purchased a B9 A4 (registered November 2015).
It was all going well until the other night on locking the wheel to the left I heard a knocking sound (just one knock). If i park up and lock the wheels either direction i do not get any noise but on moving you can hear it. Has this happened to anybody else please?
    Thanks

Although I've not heard it on A4s I've driven (a sample size of two!) - it could be the brake pad moving slightly in the direction of the wheel rotation. Would only do it once per change of forward or reverse. Not sure this would explain your situation with the steering lock though?

Could also be some play in the tie rods, which is a common issue and not too expensive to fix.
I have the same thing in my S5 and usually only at low speeds and when turning.
Replacement parts are quite cheap (£40 for two rods from euro car parts) and is fairly straightforward to replace for a garage - just make sure they note the tracking position of the existing rods so that they can install to the same point.
