I got in the car this afternoon and the dashcam said it had 1 incident recorded. This sometimes happens due to wind or a large truck going by, but thought I'd check once I got home. When i review the footage, saw a car clip the rear passenger side so grimaced and walked round to indeed find the bumper scratched with plenty of paint transfer from the car in the incident video it captured. Fortunately the damage is limited to the bumper. No doubt not much change from a grand though.

Reason I got the dashcam is my last two cars had been hit whilst parked. The Touareg I was lucky in that the other vehicle was still parked next to me so waited for them to return and the X5, the person actually left their details. If i hadn't got the dashcam with parking mode, as it was passenger side, I probably wouldn't have noticed until tomorrow morning by which point I would have had no idea when it happened or who did it.

In this case, I had the car, number plate, location, time and picture of the driver. By replaying the timeline, i could also see why it had happened - a van had blocked the woman's normal reversing route.

With a £600 excess, the £358 (fitted) I spent, has turned out to be very good value! The car is 2 years old today as well

No, just through insurance. I did speak to the husband and I think they are going to try and deny responsibility in some way.

Not having it though, will go to court if needs be as have the whole story on video, before and after, including the conversation with the husband as dashcam was recording throughout.

Had several phone calls over the past week saying needed to come and take photos of the damage. To cut a long story short, they were messing me about and in the end I told them to cancel the job and I’d be complaining to Aviva. When I spoke to them, it was nothing to do with them or the repairer...

Which model dashcam did you go for, and where from?

I’ve been looking at getting one of the Thinkware ones through the RAC website...

I got the F770 via the RAC website a couple of years ago. Can’t fault the installation by Chameleon who partner with them

not sure how far you are with your claim, but I had a similar incident at the petrol station and made a claim via Accident Exchange with my dashcam footage being the main evidence, got the car fully repaired and a like for like courtesy car for the duration of the claim - total cost incurred to the other parties insurance was £8k!

I think I will only be without the car for a few days so can get by with taxis. Will certainly aim to claim them back.

Looks like they will be replacing the black plastic mesh that runs under the bumper and then striping back the bumper, repairing and respray.
