Before you agree to take out an extra policy for gap insurance, just make sure your main policy doesn't include it already.

Not all policies will have it included but some do. A quick call to your insurance company to confirm could save you £200.

    Cheers

Its a good idea, you can haggle the price with the dealership cause it costs them between £80-£130 depending on the price of your car

If by "thrown a strop" you mean enforced the rules put in place by the site owner then you're correct.

If you don't agree with what I have done, feel free to contact said site owner, Stuart, via PM.

I worked in a corporate finance arm of a major UK bank for 3 yrs & often involved in vehicle finance. We offered GAP as an option & was surprised by the number of people who didnt bother. We didnt really earn much commision from it & couldnt sell it properly due to legislation. A couple of people a month would phone in having written off their vehicles & without the GAP they were stuffed!

At £200 i'd take it personally, if the worst did happen then you'd be a lot worse off. Its the same idea as changing your cambelt early, the alternative of having it snap is much more expensive!

    Hi Wazza,

We don’t offer this type of insurance but we always recommend it to our customers as it is money well spent in the event of anything unforeseen happening. We recommend do recommend a company which can be found on our website www.mhcfinance.co.uk as they are the cheapest we have found and it is return to invoice not GAP so a good product. We have referred a lot of our customers to them so we now have a discount code which you can use to get a further 7.5% off. CODE= 500500.

Hope they can sort you out!

note: MHC finance are sponsors on here

    Thanks

There seems to be a range of thoughts on GAP insurance. I'm a convert after having experience of a total loss. I had purchased my car outright and GAP cover paid me back the invoice price. I was £7600 better of than I would have been. Beware of the dealer prices for this though. When I replaced my car I found a company on line very helpfull and one third the price of VW Dealer. Just shows how much they make.
