No, none at all. My customer put it back together so I could get it home. The ECU smelt bad again.

I tried calling, then emailing the ECU Doctor, but have had no response, so I'm looking at Cartech Electronics for a replacement and recode.

If a new ECU doesn't fix it, I'm afraid it'll be on eBay :-(

The ECU is in a sealed aluminium case and if it got hot enough to smell you would find it with your finger ends! It is more likely that it is the ECU relay which is getting hot and this is in the same box. If it had a fault that WAS making the ECU overheat then it is likely that you would just damage a new one. Instead of just randomly changing parts, why not spend that money on some professional VAG experienced diagnostic work?

Two diagnostic companies not answering emails, but the ECU has tested ok.

Suspected 5v shorting to earth in the loom. There is a bit of the loom outer broken behind the engine, we're going to strip that back and have a look.

ECU refitted, everything worked ok for a couple of miles. No sign of any problems as far as I can trace them.

It's been a bloody good car and doesn't really owe me much, so it's on eBay for Spares/Repair.

I'm about to descend to a single VAG car :-)
