The rear wiper on my 2009 Reg A4 Avant has suddenly developed a mind of its own. Driving along in perfectly fine weather and it will suddenly start up for no reason and not stop! When it does occasionally stop it's not in the correct park position. Temporary fix in place - fuse removed. This is obviously only a short term fix while we have this fine weather, but has anybody any suggestions as to a permanent fix please?
As an aside and possibly related, for some time now the manual tailgate release handle does not open the tailgate when it is closed. I can open it fine with the drivers door switch & the key fob, just not with the handle. When the tailgate is open though & I stop it part way through closing then the handle DOES reopen it. All very weird!!
Any & all suggestions gratefully received please.

Seems to be a common issue. Here are a couple of threads that might help:

Many thanks, I'm afraid that makes dreadful sense! I'll have a look & see if I can spot a leak, combined with the Tailgate latch not working I was suspecting ECU problem, but maybe that's got wet too?

The rear wipers on the 8P A3 and 8E A4 Avant are a reliability joke, you can guarantee any one you see is either broken or if not, it has been replaced. When they leak screen wash, this damages the boot lock unit and on the A3 can collect in the tailgate and then when it is opened, the water runs down the sides, into the grommets and the roof lining staining the C pillar rims and eventually works its way down to the central convenience ECU where it causes the power supply pin to corrode off and so the ECU has to be replaced as well.

I’ve just had to replace mine on my 2009 8P. Got 9 years and 210k before it gave up, think I did pretty well!

Have just received official diagnosis - as per other threads on here the tailgate wiper motor problem has been caused by the washer pipe leaking. Seems very poor design / materials to me for this to be as common as it appears.
The malfunctioning tailgate release is apparently the control unit, as suspected. Tempted to not bother with that but you never know what else might be going so am having that replaced as well!

Water gets into the wiper motor. Poor design, quite common on Audi's.
Just had mine replaced under warranty by Audi.

Water is pumped through the motor through a rotating shaft, stupid idea!
