    Hi all,

Power electric seat not going forward. 2003 Audi A4 Cabrio 2.5 TDI

My A4 cabriolet has developed a problem with the driver’s power seat. It goes back fully but only goes forward about an inch or two. It seems as if a sensor is telling the seat to go no further. There is no clunk when the seat is going forward. The seat otherwise runs smoothly - It simply stops after one or two inches as if that’s as far as it goes. It does not move forward enough to remove the two rear torx screws that are fastening the seat rails to the floor. Therefore I cannot remove the seat.

Simple elimination tells me (i) it is not the electric motor – because the drivers seat moves forward and back. However the seat only moves forward about one or two inches. (ii) it is not the switch – because the seats move forward and back!

I have raised the seat and dropped the seat to see if the seat would move further forward. However it stops after one or two inches, irrespective of the height of the seat.

I have checked the rails and I do not see any obstruction. I have cleaned the rails as best I could and sprayed with WD40 (the latter out of frustration – about as useful as a chocolate teapot). The passenger seat is fine.

Everything else works on the seat – it goes up and down, back tilts etc. It just won’t go forward enough to let my short partner drive! Guess small mercies!!

Have you scanned the control module? Motor has An optical sensor in it that counts the revolutions (as far as I remember - it has been a few years since I opened one). Since it goes back this should be fine but could have problems. to get it forward apply 12v to the bigger tabs if it goes back just reverse the polarity.

    Could be the motor.

Thanks for response. In the end I removed seat, cleaned rails and put everything back together. Think it was a bad connection but everything working now.
