    Hello All,

    2002 A6 C5 1.9TDI 6Spd Manual (130, AVF)

Does anyone have any tips or How2's/advice on replacement of a steering rack for my car?

The steering fluid seems to be leaking into the OSF steering gaiter, so i am assuming the seal has failed on the rack/ram itself. I can get a replacement rack/ram for around £150. I have been told by my friend (who is a mechanic), not to bother getting this changed as according to Autodata it shows 4.6 hours to replace. The issue i have is the car's engine and box are mint, and it would be a shame to scrap the car on the basis that the rack needs a replacement.

I have done some searches on the C5 section and cannot seem to find any post/threads relating to replacement of a steering rack/ram.

    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks in advance.

It is an evil sod to get out but thankfully quite reliable, I buy ZF exchange units when I need one but these are being dropped by Zf Lenksysteme new owner, Bosch, and is only available new under their number K S00 000 872 which replaces the rack typically used in your car, 4B2 422 066 F which is now VAG number 4B2 422 052 X which retails at £1103.99. The Audi time is four hours which would be funny if it wasn't so depressing, it takes at least double that.
