    Hi to All,
been a will since visiting the Forum.
long story short, 2011 golf gti mk6 70K, idle surging problems then engine warning light, suspect air leak. Changed the PCV, ran the car for a few minutes, all good, decided to have lunch and return and cancel the warning codes. Feeling quite happy at this point.
    BUT
Returned to car, turned ignition on, tried to cancel fault code ( this seemed different to other occasions when cancelling fault codes, unless I made a mistake, code would not cancel).
Tried to start car but indicator dash lights just repeatedly flashed with the classic latching unlatching relay sound, very weak almost nil crank.
Ran another code and p068A was added to previous codes( previous codes related to air leak ).
Charged battery (just in case ) have good head lights and blinkers, no indication of low battery ( to me ).
Locked the car up over night, thinking time. Opened the driver door today to a chirping sound.

My gut indicates just bad luck something failed ( remember the car did start and run prior to lunch ) or most likely I have triggered something when trying to disable the fault code.

Any help resolving this would be most welcomed. The engine compartment fuses visually appear o/k, from memory there are two relays. I can pull these and do an external check if this is accessible but unsure if the relay will work properly when reinstalled ( may not receiving power ). Just about out of my depth now.

    Best wishes
    John

Sounds like a dead cell in the battery, it happens......
Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

    To Crasher,

    Amen brother

    to Keithuk,
    Many thanks for the reply.
The RossTech VD.. is a magnificent tool, just be wary of the interpretation. I did find all your information but fell foul of the layman' rule, attend to the obvious first.
It indicated that the battery had to hold a good charge so in anticipation I did charge the battery ( all night). All looked good the next morning but I thought that some more knowledgeable Forum member would request a full fault code print out. More fault codes were presented, still with the latching and unlatching relay sound. More thinking time and after looking at the fault printouts I noticed low battery readings of 8 to 10 volts. This surely can not be as I had the battery on charge all night.

New battery, no faults All is good.
I know batteries die very quickly, but to change the PCV, start the engine, go inside for lunch ( 1/2 hour ) then find a dead battery.
The battery Tech suggested a cell had collapsed in the battery.
I will try and repost the whole story in the appropriate section, it just save some poor soul further heart burn.
    Regards
    John

I get weird **** all the time, I have stopped asking why.... The other week we had an A3 with a faulty instrument panel. My ODIS system was down so I booked it in with a friend. The next morning I jumped in to go and do the job and the ABS light was on. My friend did not have time to investigate so I did it with VCDS when I got back. The ABS pump had lost its coding but I had a code read from when it came in so I copied and pasted the coding across and it refused. I got a specialist ECU chap out and he spent 3 hours battling it. A friend of his at Audi in Germany told him to enter a certain incorrect code which it accepted and then he changed it to the right code, which it accepted..... bloody computers in cars!
