I'm putting this in the relevant section although it isn't model specific.

    I have a 2002 A4 3.0 Multitronic. 90,000 on the clock

I have noise that sounds for all the world like inner CV joints. Click/clunk on acceleration from standstill and a little less obvious on slowing .
I changed the inner joints (outers were changed last year and 5,000 miles ago) all for quality items and it has made no difference.
I did notice that on one of the inner joints I didn't have to drive the bearings onto the shaft they just pushed on easily with my hand. Is it possible that the splines of the shaft itself are worn? Or is there another possible cause of the noise?

    Any help much appreciated
My plan was to lob on a very cheap aftermarket shaft (complete with joints) to diagnose it for sure. I'm getting pretty good and whipping the shafts out and replacing them! But if anyone has any other ideas I'd welcome them.

Checked all the control arms? I'd say one of the bushes or joints is worn. Could also be snub mount, or subframe mounts.

Do you mean the splines on the shaft that the CV joint slides onto? If you do I can't see that being a problem BUT I have had this with the joint splines in the wheel hub when people have not used a new bolt and tightened it to 200Nm +180°. In some instances I have had to use a wipe of Loctite bearing fit on the splines in the hub to stop them shifting, this was routine on the Golf 3 with 5 stud wheels.

All 4 top control arms are brand new. it's just had an MOT so I assume the lowers are sound (they picked up the worn top ones)
I have a snub mount ready to fit as the old one is worn but it really doesn't sound like it's coming from there. It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side drive shaft.

Yes the splines that the inner CV joint slides onto. The outer splines are on the joint itself so they get renewed with each new joint.
The hub bolts were new and torqued to 200nm + 180 degrees

Our A6 2005 AllRoad has a similar issue we have not had time to track down.

Replaced snub mount and took out drive shafts, cleaned mating faces and used Loctitie 641 on mating surfaces and outer splines. No change!
I'll start another thread with a video where you can hear the noise

    No worries
It ruled all those things out and the snub mount was shot anyway.
