I'm a new owner of this car as my Mk4 was written off in Jan.

I just changed the alternator pulley on my 2006 tdi Golf Plus and decided to remove the alternator to do it as I wasn't happy that the tools were correctly seated with it on the car.

i disconnected the battery first and after doing the job and re-fitting the alternator, when I reconnected the battery I had the ESP lit. It wasn't lit before!

Any suggestions why this has suddenly come on?

The steering will feel odd and heavy to start with so carefully take it around the block as it can act oddly and feel strange, stop in a safe place and turn the steering lock to lock a few times holding it on lock each time for a few seconds and the proper assistance should come back and the light go out.

Thanks for that Crasher. Just went out to try it and the light wasn't on now!

i went for a 20 mile drive after I finished the job and it stayed on all the time but I guess the turning I did was sufficient!

    thanks for your reply.
