Hoping to get some advice if poss!

i have a 2014 A6 Avant, and 2 weeks ago I discovered the drivers footwell swimming with water one morning. After doing some research we thought it was the plenum chamber, so my husband cleared it out (there was some crap and debris in there)

anyway, come Friday and it’s wet in the footwell again. Decided to take it to a ‘Audi specialist’ on Saturday. He discovers that the water is coming in from the front of the pan roof as the headlining is soaking, it’s basically running down the front door pillar and in to the footwell. He tested with some water and it soaked away as it should do, so he fitted a bung to a drain hole in the hopes that would fix it. It didn’t. Got in the car the following day and the passenger side footwell is damp, as is the headlining, and then this morning after the heavy rain overnight, the drivers footwell & headlining is saturated. Car currently has a tarpaulin over it til I can get it to a garage.

my question is, what could it be? I have the option of taking it to a VAG garage this week, or direct to Audi, but I’m guessing I’ll have to pay for Audi to even look at it? Any ideas of cost?! How long is a piece of string kind of question isn’t it?!

    From another recent post:

Has anyone changed a seal? Is it as big a job as Audi make out?

Have you ever had the pan roof serviced?

I've got no idea why they would bug the drain holes, that is just going to cause problems.. If anything they should be cleared out.

There is more than one drain on the roof, so I would invest in getting it fully serviced and checked over.

No, not specifically the sunroof. Unless it’s checked during the normal service, which I’m certain it isn’t. I’m not convinced the guy actually knew what he was fully doing, so I’m torn between taking it to Audi or a VAG garage here.

I’m not sure how to post a link I’m afraid, but if you look for, I think, “Panoramic sunroof seal replacement” from about 3 weeks ago you should find it.

I think I might request a sunroof service at my next service...

    I found it thanks!

I wasn’t offered a sunroof service by Audi last year when I had the car serviced at the dealership?!

I’ve had the car since new, 3.5 years, and never been offered a sunroof service, but on my service record have ‘sliding roof’ noted at first service 18k miles (but didn’t pay extra for it). My online service schedule states “Roof insert panorama sliding roof: Check, clean and grease” every 40k miles or 2 years.

    So an update.

Took the car to a VAG specialist whom took the headlining apart today. Basically the cassette (I think that’s what it’s called) that the pan sunroof sits in is made up of 2 plastic U shapes, joined together. On BOTH sides the joints have split apart. The garage think that it’s started to leak and with the cold weather the water has frozen, expanded and split the frame. It’s going to cost over £800 alone for the cassette from Audi, then labour.

I’m tempted to now take the car to Audi, let them diagnose the same fault and then kick up a fuss. Surely it’s not fit for purpose?! The car is under 4 years old.

If the sunroof service is recorded as being carried out when the car was 2 years old, I think it would be a good idea to try and get some goodwill against the cost, without the service you would have zero chance.
