    Hi
    Anyone help please?
My son has just tried to leave his house in his A3
    Started car ok
    Wipers then stopped.
    Gradually different circuits have failed.
    Horn
Indicators (although they do flash when locking unlocking)
    Dashboard lights
Rev counter and instruments (engine still runs)
Boot door open (when its shut)
    only drivers window will open

Has anyone come across anything similar please?

    Thanks

Body control unit problem ? If so it could be linked to an under-voltage issue? Battery, charging etc. I`m guessing you haven't done any probing into this fault.

    Hello Alan, thanks for reply.
You are correct havent done any probing as yet.
My son is pulling his hair out..
Im not sure what the Body Control Unit is? or where it is.
He has had no issue with car charging, and no flat battery

Im not sure where to start with this as so many circuits are playing up.

IS ANYONE IN ST ALBANS ABLE TO ASSIST PLEASE?

    Cheers

check battery voltage before starting and when running, should be around 12.5V and 14.5V, it can start with lower battery voltage but electrics go crazy, do things improve if the car is left to run for several minutes ie, alternator charging battery. I've had similar issues on a 2004 touran when the battery failed to hold charge. more prevalent in this cold weather.

    Hi Rob
    I will check later.
However the car can be driven quite a few miles. Although lots of silly things occur.
    Cant open windows
    Indicators play up
while on the drive, my son was locked in and couldnt get out.
it seems to have a mind of its own. wihout any logical order of failures.
we are both so confused with the various issues

just tried a new tailgate lock , as suggested. but warning still present on dash (BOOT OPEN)

cant help thinking that IF we find the problem it will be something simple.

check voltage & charging first, failing that, a full scan using VCDS.

Voltage and charging check out ok
Where would i get a VCDS scan?

Read an american Audi site and someone had same issues and they were directed to a Steering Control Module
    Any idea what it is/does?
    cheers

Hi again, to be fair, you could try a multitude of possible causes before pin pointing the problem. If your sure system voltages are fine and alternator charging okay, a scan with a good diagnostic tool would help. Beware some generic scanners dont pick up ALL codes and its usually these codes you want.
