    Hello all.

I'm soon to be a new owner of a 2018 Q7. 3.0 TDi S-Line. Looking forward to it.

I've been scouring these forums the last few days and found some great info on here. I'm a little confused about Audi Connect, and in particular the use of Google Maps / Google Earth. Hopefully someone can clarify for me:

    1. Android Auto allows you to use Google Maps if your phone is plugged in via USB. This seems fairly straightforward.
    2. The car also has Google Maps / Google Earth integrated into it's navigation, but requires AudiConnect to be setup. Do the new cars have an embedded esim? Or do you need to plug in your own sim?
    3. Can you still tether to your phone to use these services? Does it have to be with RSAP?
    4. Is there a free trial of AudiConnect? And if so - how long? And can it still be extended free of charge, or is the subscription now in place? Couldn't find any info on this online.
    5. If it's not free, does the coding for Google Earth enabling work via OBDEleven (saw a post to achieve this somewhere)?

    Sorry for all the questions!

    Many thanks.

Hi Fezter welcome and congrats on the imminent arrival.

So with it being a brand new car and MY18 it will have an embedded sim in it.

This will allow you to use the Audi Connect features - so GoogleMaps etc. If you haven’t purchased the Tech Pack I believe the free trial is only for 3 months.

However I don’t believe Audi UK have as yet worked out how to charge for connect extension (but I could be wrong) so after the three months a quick call to Audi UK CS about extending the license usually gets you a free 12 month extension.

There’s a few other threads here re embedded sim or using your own. Again from memory the moment you plug in your own sim in to it to say create a hotspot all Audi Connect data is used from your sim.

To create a hotspot using the embedded sim you will need to purchase a data plan through the MyAudi site (again from memory wasn’t cheap)

I can’t now remember the rest of your questions but hopefully the above all helps

It does help, thank you. At least I should be able to use the Google Earth functionality when I receive the car.
