How do you replace boot sensor/contact/switch (whatever the right name is)?

I've found this on changing the actuator but struggling to find anything discussing the switch/sensor?
VW Audi Forum - The #1 Volkswagen (VW) Forum Dedicated to the whole Volkswagen (VW) Group

Can't lock the car at the moment as it never reports closed so the alarm goes off after a while. Started intermittently with the snow a couple of weeks ago and now seems to have set in permanently. Scanned with VCDS this shows up:

01368 - Alarm triggered by Luggage Compartment Switch
    35-00 - -
The dash shows the flashing boot symbol even though the boot is shut fine.

Fairly certain I need to repair/replace the boot switch/sensor but thought I'd post here for some starting hints/tips before I tear the entire boot apart only to find that it's two screws to do what I need to.

    Thanks in advance
    Ian

Sounds like the microswitch in the lock is jammed, try spraying with wd40 and see if it can be released before you try anything else.

Cheers calum. I checked things again before doing any WD40 spraying and it's now reporting "closed"! Given how little is exposed at the lock mechanism I'm assuming you meant me to just stick the Wd40 red tube in gap where the latch is and just fire a bit of wd40 in?

Yeah it’s in there somewhere, trial and error, hopefully that’s all the issue is for you.

Well after reporting itself as "closed" last night, (alarm had set properly with a flash of the indicators) woke up to a beeping car this morning. When I tried to lock the car again this morning it wouldn't flash as the boot wouldn't report "closed".

Sounds like this is a cold/damp issue affecting the switch so Wd40 could still be the answer but I might try electrical cleaner first.

Found some pictures in the Haynes of the boot's lock assembly so I'll be taking the boot trim out and having a poke around at some point soon it seems

Until you have it fixed, you can lock the car from the passenger side and use the lock button on the drivers door, the alarm will not be armed so no early wake ups for you.

Cheers for this Calum. I had wanted to ask this question about locking without the alarm but every other thread I'd found with people asking this everyone said it wasn't possible. However I think I must be being dumb cos I've tried every way I can think of following your instructions but I can't get the car to end up locked without the alarm being activated! Could you add a bit of detail on what to do? Cheers ian

I have never had to do this on the Audi but I did on my Passat B5.5, the central locking system is very similar so I can’t see how it wouldn’t work.
I would lean in the passenger side and press the lock side of the lock/unlock button on the drivers door
Let me know if this works for you?
You could always disconnect the alarm sounder, it’s in the plenum chamber next to the battery. Although the indicators would still be triggered, sorry I don’t have a definitive answer for you.

Ah I see. Yeah that doesn't seem to work for me, there seems to be an interlock between the passenger doors and the switch so you can't lock it with any of the passenger doors open. You can lock the other doors with the drivers door open with the button but once you close it the drivers door is unlocked.

Classic that’ll teach me not to get to the bottom of things. Got a boot that won’t close again!

This post seemed to include some useful part numbers
