Hi. My centre brake light a Mark 5 Golf TDI was not working so I replaced it with a new VW part and still no luck. I have just replaced the brake light switch with a genuine VW part but it is still not working.

the side brake lights are just fine but I have got an MOT due soon and I think it will definitely fail.

can anyone help with advice? It might be a broken wire but I think that is unlikely and don't know how to fix it if there is a failed wire.

    Thanks in advance

Might need a multimeter but they're not expensive, check the voltage at the connector especially the earth contact, a lot of German cars have a constant live and switch the earth. You may've disturbed something that needs a bit of contact cleaner.

Hello. The car just passed it's MOT with no advisories (which surprised me)!. I pointed out that the centre brake light was not working and the man said it was OK - you just needed the two outer brake lights to pass the MOT.

I would still like to get the centre brake light working but at least there is mo longer a rush to do so..
