Okay that's quite interesting that it's the closest to the furthest instead of the other way around like most cars.

You've helped me a lot and given lots of advice for others to read too. I'll look forward to doing the jobs and will keep you guys updated. If I'm using two hands then recording maybe tricky but I will get some pictures. Hopefully I will make a good manual of the balance shaft as pictures doesn't exist

I have some pictures but a few maybe are not specific enough to make too much sense as the angle etc. that they were taken is not ideal. Some good ones of the split BS unit though with and without shaft 2.

Yes it's hard to get a pictures in tough working conditions let alone a quality video. But it's definitely well overdue, it's a huge issue and we still don't have a quality walk-through that's really in-depth. But before people know how to solve the issue, they need to know what the cause is and just replacing hex key or using the opposite side isn't a long term solution. I was inclined to do a bs delete but I wouldn't like the additional vibration at specific revs.

    awesome advice and write up!

A quick question - I have managed to find the cam locking tools, and the balance shaft assembly locking tool - but not the crank locking tool (yet). Can the re-install be done with locking the cams and the assembly alone?? timing belt will stay on... ie, is there much movement between cam tdc and crank tdc?

    Cheers

Its not hard to find a cheap crank lock tool, get both types if you dont know which one is yours. It'll make life easier locking it in place. I didnt do the job, instead got another car. But ive done timing belt job and understand the job more than ever.

Even a perfect fitting drill bit may do as you can see the hole the crank locking tool goes in unlike the cam which is harder to see. Also check that locking tools actually fit, poor designed cam locking tools do exist. On my timing belt write up ive added a locking kit you can buy but might be harder in Aussie.
