    hi everyone,
I've done a service on my A6 3.0L tdi quattro and for some unknown reason it's not taken the 8.2 litres of oil as per manual.
i put roughly 7 litre in, started the car to let the oil filter

fill up, then i topped up the oil to near the max mark on dipstick.
    overall i used 7.5 litres.
i thought that after a few miles i would have to top up, instead after 3 days the level is still ok.
am i missing something or i made a mistake somewhere?
i have taken out just over 8 litres, so i don't know what's happening.
Didn't flush engine with anything and drained oil from the sump until last drop.
And yes, i took the filter out and let drain.
    thanks for any input.

Which manual did you get the 8.2L figure from? My 3.0L TDI takes 7.3L according to the handbook and this always hits the mid point on the dipstick but my mechanic has a service database that says 8.2L so perhaps different years had slightly different sump capacities? If in doubt I'd go with the dipstick reading.

Hi, i got the info fro the manual that came with the car.
All other services done by Audi are showing 8.2 litres as well.
I know that it doesn't mean they actually put that much, but i also measured what it came out and it's just over 8 litres.
I'm going by the dipstick and with 7.5 litres is showing near the max mark.
    Mistery.

Dont forget quoted figures will be a dry fill ie a new virgin engine, when you drain/refill its impossible to get it all out hence you can only get 7.5 back in.
It doesnt have to be on the max, mark towards the top end is just fine.

Just checked notes in wifes book and Ive written 7.75 litres for her 3.0tdi 2011 model.

Ok, thanks for all the input.
I checked again today and it's still a couple of mm below max, so all good.
Audi serviced this car from new, i would assume they know what they're doing (or maybe not )
Strange thing is that i always keep an eye on the oil level nd before changing it it was just below the max as always.
Took out just over 8 litres and 7.5 went back to the same level.
    Mistery!

Assuming you poured it straight in from the jug the oil came in? if so maybe they were slightly overfilled? so 4 litre was actually 4.1 or 4.2.

Ive seen a few main dealer vehicles overfilled with oil.

I poured 5 litres from the oil container it came in and another 2.5 from the second one.
I doubt they give you more than stated on the label.
