I javecthis unfortunately and I just can’t get it out of limp mode had white and red connector apart under ECU
Starts ok but as soon as you touch throttle into limp mode.
I thought it was the turbo and stripped and cleaned that first.
Any advice now on how to get it out of limp mode. Says P1639 throttle position sensor but everyone who has had this fault change them and still the same

I'm almost 100% certain it was ingress of damp.

Underneath the black plastic box the ECU is in is a seal, this can perish over time, plus one of the bolt mounts to tighten the ECU box on to this seal as sheered off.

What I did was make sure everything was dry, disconnect all of the wires and spray some electrical safe WD40 on to all the contacts to clean it. As for limp mode, normally when it's fully dry and clean the car will start in it's own time, other than that, I found clearing the error codes with Vagcom/vcds will work; the cheap ones you can get of ebay should be enough to clear codes.

I've also took the precausion of putting a carrier bag on the scuttle/phelum below the windsceen and above were the ECU is, to deflect as much rain away from that area as possible.

Also, I have read the oxygen sensor can cause limp home mode.

It's very unlikely to be the actually peddle but it can be.

Cleaning everything, letting dry and waiting a bit is nothing.

Cheap VCDS might be less than a tenner, but you'll need a lap top.

A second hand peddle from ebay can be between 10 - 30 quid

    Oxygen are quite expensive.
