B7 passat 2.0 tdi EGR error

Hi. I have a b7 2012 2.0 tdi 140 with 85k miles on clock. I am the second owner of the car. It has a full history and has been serviced on the button. I had it in today for a timing belt and water pump replacement as the water pump had failed. Also got it serviced while in there even though it was only done 3 months prior. Anyway on collection of the car after work the mechanic told me that there was an egr error showing up on the computer. I know the car had the software update before i originally bought it. I have also seen that some owners received help from VW replacing these due to the software update effecting the egr. My question is will VW help me in getting this repaired? I will call them tomorrow and ask but some info from you guys would be great. The car drives great and I have not noticed any power loss or sluggishness but I'm worried that I will have problems down the road with this now and the thought of paying for this is not very nice. Any help is much appreciated.
