Will try opening the bonnet too! Worth a try as would rather avoid a trip to the garage as selling in the next 6 weeks.

hi all i have had this issue recently on my audi a4 2.0 cglc engine . i was noticing the car was doing a passive regen about three times a week so i tried a bottle off luqi molly dpf cleaner this did not seem o do anything but three days after putting it in the tank i got a code for the 02 sensor . then a day after i got the reduce oil level warning when i checked the level using the laser adjustable dipstick the level was about 1mm over max level . then i removed the 02 sensor only to find it waa very sutty and obviously running rich [ also noticed very poor mpg ] so i decided to clean the 02 sensor i got a tin of oven cleaner and sprayed it in a bucket and waited for the foam to dissipate leaving just the liquid i soaked the tip of the sensor for 24 hours and was amazed just how much carbon it soaked off then i swilled it under the tap then blasted it with brake and clutch cleaner and put it back on the car and cleared the code . it as been over four weeks now and it as only done one passive regen and there as been a noticeable improvement in mpg and no more reduce oil warning

Mine has reduced in frequency since doing a 500 mile round trip to Newcastle. Not sure I’m capable of doing the O2 sensor!!!

I recently had this warning along with a few others on my SQ7. In the space of 1 week I had this several times, along with the PreSense deciding to bring the car to a standstill of it's own accord and numerous warnings about the steering lock. I was beginning to think the car was possessed. Anyway, it went into the dealers last Wednesday and they spoke as if the excessive oil warning was a known issue and they reduced it from "14 to 11" (I assume litres). According to the Audi Cam it also had a software update but they couldn't (wouldn't) tell me what this was for. My advice is get it in to your dealer as it seems that there is genuinely too much oil in there.

Had the same issue on my car last year in the summer (I change oil every year abut only do short daily school runs) came on intermittently for a period, then came on and off again. Took it into dealer who said there was too much oil in there (explained that it had an oil change only 6months prior) and definitely didn't add any extra oil.

They took some oil out of it and then said problem solved.

Haven't had the issue since, so maybe related to earlier post around ensuring they don't fill to the top on next service.

I am really surprised by some posts. It is not like this that suddenly the car starts producing oil! The excess oil comes from dilution by diesel fuel due to the unfinished DPF burning process. It could happened in the cars with many short run distances when the whole DPF process could not fully complete. The dealer should immediately change the oil instead of draining the excess of it.

    Thanks retom

Dealer mentioned none of that apart from "it's drained"

Next service is in September, do you reckon it's worth replacing now or wait til service.

I do ~ 6k per year (but short runs)

I would suggest to replace it since the oil must be diluted by diesel fuel. If you do so many short runs, take your car once a month on a highway run of 50 miles with CA 2200 RPM. It doesn't have to be fast, you can change to manual to keep the needed RPM. This should clean the DPF.
That's the "beauty" of being an owner of the car with DPF.
