    Hi All

Daughters car is showing signs of a rear banging noise over pot holes ect

Had a look at the usual and nothing obvious except ....

Bounce the rear of the car with hand brake off and in gear and O/S rear metal screetching noise

Bouncing the car while holding the spring is not good as it feels like its juddering while making a noise

Spring looks fine and spacing looks equal compared to the Passenger but it don't feel good ...

Can't see the bottom of the spring as it hides in the rear wish bone but does any one have any ideas

I'm thinking the bottom of the spring has snapped

Wheel bearing feels fine - roll bar and drop links looks fine

She does say its sounds better with the tank full of fuel

    Any thoughts

Have you jacked car up as high as possible to see if spring has actually snapped?

Golf 5/6 rear springs often snap at the bottom where you can’t see them and the broken bit bounces around inside the spring arm making a terrible racket.

    Crasher

    On form again... Cheers

One spring snapped in two places at the bottom and the other was fine

Both springs replaced in 1 hour with a pair of Sachs for £35 each

Remove bolt from bottom wish bone to hub and then spring comes out easy with no spring clamps

This is one of the easiest jobs under your car you can do on your drive with a few tools
