If it comes on when going round bends or braking it could be low oil level sloshing about and pickup losing suction - check oil level. also could be blocked pickup strainer or knackered oil pump drive key if its a 2L diesel.

These engines are prone to oil pressure problems due to sump sludge, it will be an AXW engine, a bit of a rare car, I have only ever come acrosss a few. They can also suffer problems with the balancer shaft assembly but it is not a common problem as it is quite different to the system on the 2L TDI units where one is used. I suspect it is why the car was sold and my advice would be to have the sump removed and checked for sludge and then a proper oil pressure test carried out which must show at least 2Bar at 2000 rpm @ 80 degrees oil temp but 3Bar is the lowest I like to see with hot oil.

The Golf 5 2L TDI with the BKD engine does not use a balancer shaft

It's a 2L petrol Steve so a chain drive oil pump tensioner issue.

If the car is what I think it is, a 2004 model year only manual 2L 16v FSI then the car will be a type 1K1 2N2 with the EA113 series AXW code engine which uses a chain driven balance shaft system with a chain driven Gerotor oil pump.
