Unfortunately time has come that I need to replace my tyres. At the moment I have 255/40/R19. My question is can I fit 255/30/R19 or 255/35/R19? Or they need to be exact size and if I want different I would need to change rims as well?

Stick to the original size , they're not an ugly tall profile so don't fit elastic bands for crappy uk roads .

And that's what I think I will do. There is no much difference in price anyway.

    Thanks.

If you retain tyre width at 255 but use different sidewall size, your speedo will be inaccurate. Would also have to tell your insurer.

It really seems like too much hastle. I guess I will get same size.

One more question because I asked lot of people and there is no definite answer. Is it better to buy new unbranded ones or part work branded?

Personal choice and available budget, I always buy new, but if funds are stretched I would suggest part worn. I use Black Circles.com to identify best spec tyre i.e. grip, noise, fuel economy and then buy cheapest of the highest spec. It will be a good guide for used tyres also. Good luck.

I can choose between part worn Goodyear which are supposed to have around 5mm thread and new undbranded ones which have quite good specs according to the table.

If not a brand name snob and the budget ones are of high spec I would go for them. All tyres have to meet minimum leglal standards in UK.

And that's what I think I will do. New are new after all. Besides I can always paint with white marker "Toyo" or "Pirelli" .

    Thank you for the help.
