    Hi All Golfers,
    I have recently bought a small Eriba ‘pop top’ caravan, and had been considering upgrading to an Audi A4 Avant 3.0 TDI to pull it with a bit more ease.
    I’m now having second thoughts about this, as I really like my Golf, and I’ve never seen a higher spec SE.
    I’m thinking about the following, in order to restore and add some extra power;
    • A reconditioned turbo (or even bigger turbo upgrade)
    • Re mapping the ECU
    • EGR valve removal

    I would be very grateful for opinions and other things I might want to consider.
    Including opinions regarding if I am barking up the wrong tree with this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russ

    I doubt you'll need any sort of upgrade to tow one of those Eriba's, my in laws have one and you could tow it with a polo, he used to tow it with a 1.9 fabia SDI no bother. I've towed it with a 1.9 TDI touran 105ps no bother as well. I doubt you'd be looking to chuck it round that fast anyway.

    I know what you mean, but his was likely the very small model, called a Puck.
    Mine is the bigger Triton GT 430, but you are correct when you say that my car should pull it.
    The thing is, my car has done 202,000 miles and it feels very slightly ‘tired’
    Any thoughts on what I could do to improve that?

    Yes his is a puck, tiny little thing - I'd check the basics first such as removing and cleaning the intake manifold and ports, run some diagnostics and checks such as the MAF sensor, torsion values on injectors if it's a PD, turbo boost requested by ECU vs actual boost generated, then decide what you might need or want to replace. I'm no expert but I'd do all this before considering a remap as you'd just be remapping on top of potential existing faults otherwise.

    That seems like good advice. I’ll start making enquiries about that. Thanks Rob!
