    Hi,

Bit of a boy racer question that I can't quite find the answer to.

Does S mode actually make the car faster? I've read that it increases the throttle range and sharpens up the gear changes but in terms of performance figures, does it make the car go faster? It certainly feels faster (the kids agree too!!), if not then I don't quite understand the point of it, apart from a different driving experience but not actually going any quicker?

    Just curious!

    Thanks

    Mike.

Don't think it does but just makes everything respond faster. I did find out by accident in my A6, that if you really plant the foot there is an extra bit of push-it must be a kick down switch or position sensor.

On a tiptronic gearbox it'll lock the torque convertor more aggressively, and keep you in a more responsive gear. No more BHP as such.

Thanks all. Still trying to understand how it doesn’t actually make the car faster, and therefore what’s the point?

If you had 2 identical cars side by side, one in ordinary Drive mode, the other in Sport, what would the end outcome be of a drag race, or 40 to 80mph for instance?

Like I said, very much a boy racer question and I should grow up......!

It doesn't give more top end just acceleration so 0-80 sports would get there quicker, all out race unsure as in sports you would be ahead so still may win but have no more top end of speed than In drive
