    has anyone had this fault at around 90k miles ? to mention that is not a permanent fault, just comes on every now and then.
    Garrage reckons power steering rack has to be replaced and estimates a 2000 cost

    There has been a few software updates for the c7 including one for steering. Maybe you are just missing the update

    Hi My 2015 FL had a recall inspection at around 6 months old for the rack regarding a seal that could let moisture in done. All was OK and do not know if your car may be due it but worth asking Audi if yours is involved in the recall.

    Regarding the cost the younger adults in my household share a 2007 VW Polo and that developed a electronic steering rack fault requiring replacement. VW wanted over £1200 just for the rack, at the time the car was probably worth about £2500. Got a independent to fit an equivalent rack, all in for £800 so £2000 from the Audi dealer is probably not too bad by comparison

    Thanks everyone. i just had a new one fitted as the electric part of it apparently was gone.Part price was 1650 bought from audi dealership and the rest up to 2150 was labour and adaptation.Still nobody knows why it did brake so soon as car only has 90k miles.
