Hello fellow A6 drivers, I'm after any advice or experience that you can be offer please.

Over the last year or so I've had an inconsistent oil pressure warning, no error code, which is becoming more regular. My favoured grease monkey has checked the oil pressure and sensor and says it's OK, so did an oil change and thought all was good because it didn't happen to him when road testing. But it does when I drive - usually worse when taking sharp corners around town, but equally when creeping at 20 in traffic etc.

It's a 2003 with a 2ltr Petrol ALT engine and almost 286k miles on the clock. Having read a number of other oil pump related threads my next action is to get the sump dropped, the sludge removed (I presume there is sludge because I don't think it's ever done before and I've had the car for over 11 years) and the pickup pipe / strainer cleaned or replaced.

Given the mileage is quite high (has anyone done more?) I thought it might be an idea for an oil pump specialist to have a look, as the chain / tensioner /sprockets have probably worn a bit, which could lead to slack on the chain. Googling I found a place called "Ring Engineering" in Hayes that seem to offer that sort of thing. Has anyone used them?

Or, if the sludge removal doesn't work, should I just consider replacing the oil pump with new?

    Thanks,

    Fred

I called Ring Engineering to see what the damage might be. Apparently they only repair / rebuild oil pumps for diesel engines and that mine is only available new from Audi. I'm still interested to hear any other experiences!
