When picking my car I had a ceiling price of £45k as it’s a company vehicle, car is a 17 plate.

It had to be a Black Edition and the tech pack advanced, paint and Supersports Seats (drive 35k miles PA and was looking for seats that stopped my slouching when driving) were a must which left enough for ambient lighting and that was it spent.

My neighbour has an A5 with CarPlay and I didn’t realise how good it was.

    Is retrofitting obscenely costly?

I believe if you have the tech pack advanced then all you need is to have Airplay activated by Audi via a software licence for which they will charge something like £250 if I recall.

That would be ideal. I’ll give the dealer a phone tomorrow!

The best the dealer could quote me was £470. You can buy it on ebay Genuine Audi Smartphone Interface Retrofit Q2 A6 A7 Q7 R8 RS6 RS7 TT | eBay for £270. But the dealer was quoting me labour on top, which was nearly as much as the 'software'. In reality it's just a piece of paper with a code on it, that gets activated through the Audi servers. I think it's a total rip off tbh and I declined the quote. My wife has it on her Q2; it's OK but nothing that the car can do with it's own satnav and media capabilities.

Does it not let you access YouTube and your music in a similar interface to your IPhone? The standard Audi interface is terribly dated, it’s the same system I had in my ‘59 plate A5.

I have it as a factory fit option on my S6. I like but could easily live without..... anyway to answer your question, no it does not let you access YouTube. It will let you access your phone, siri, music, maps, messages (WhatsApp - only readout and making a new one, but cant read the them like on the phone), Audi MMI, Podcasts, Audionooks and some other ones like TuneIn and Twitter. FaceBook is no longer possible.

There are probably many more but it depends on what apps you have.

Having seen it to me it looks like a vast improvement on the interface. I use music and podcasts a lot and the Audi interface is terrible for it, it picks up podcasts in music and scrolling through tracks / albums is painfull.
