A6 Avant rear brake light.

I have a question...
Our car is a 2009 facelift Avant. It has the Xenon headlamps and LED's on the tail lights.
The missus reported that the warning sign came on for left brake light so I thought I'd take a look. Meanwhile she went to the motor factors only to be almost laughed at for thinking she had LED'S. She was fobbed off with the old standard tail/brake combo bulb, which I already have plenty of.
Anyway, I did finally get to look at it and what I've lost is the tail and brake lights on the tailgate (on the left side) All the lights in the adjacent rear wing are fine.
On removal of the cover I found 2 bulbs, one reversing light and the other the fog light. Both of these still work.
The lights that have failed don't appear to be accessible. So what do I do? Everything looks clean and dry inside. Could it be a fuse? If so, where do I look?

Try looking at the wiring in the rubber conduit on the RH rear side of the boot lid as a wire may have snapped.

Same thing happened to mine....I ended up buying a new off eBay.... it was around 100 quid....and piece of cake to fit.

Yes....was a complete new unit...came with the two bulbs you mentioned... connected it up and worked perfectly.

That's interesting. I wonder how that would suddenly need replacement.
Right, well I'll look into that. And the possible wiring issue.

I was told the LEDs had given up the ghost....and without splitting open the light were impossible to fix

It came from an eBay store called mr-auto-uk.....was £111 and is made by Valeo....so OEM
