That time is almost upon us once again.

Doesn't seem possible that a year has passed.

I wont harp on about things, but please, spare a thought for those who keep (and have kept) us safe, wherever they may be, whatever they may be doing.

    Last year's appeal raised £34,986,938.

My sig has once again been changed to reflect the occasion - clicking it will take you to the "New ways to support" page where you have a number of different ways to make a donation.

Crasher - thanks so much for bringing this to the fore....Its such a great cause and IMO everyone should give at least something to the warriors that fought and died for our freedom!

I saw a stand in our local shopping centre yesterday and approached them, donated £5 and thanked them for their service to their country.

A great cause and one that I am proud to support.
Most years I go to Ypres for Armistice Day and visit the Menin Gate on which my great great uncle's name is inscribed, who was lost in the Battle of Passchendaele. I won't be there this year unfortunately but will be attending the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph in Preston instead.
Respect to all those who have selflessly given their lives for the rest of us.

    Jon76,
My wife's grandfather also was killed at the second battle of Passchendaele October 1917, as part of the British second army attempting to take the Westrozebekke ridge with the British fifth army and the ANZACS.

Thanks - the WW1 thing fascinates me and it's always interesting to hear stories from others about what their ancestors did.

    Now unstuck until next year.

As at the time of posting, this year's appeal has raised £31,069,943.

Considering the state of the country, that speaks volumes.

www.poppyshop.org.uk the Royal British Legion's online shop is well worth a look if you are after some poppy merchandise that's a bit more out of the ordinary.

I've just bought a nice pair of poppy cufflinks from there to show my support for this worthy cause
