Tried the ABS module in VCDS again. No coding shown in any of the fields. Just tries to communicate on a few channels and then fails saying it can't communicate.

Sorry, not sure I understand what to do with these error codes. Where do you find them on the car?

They are some of the fault codes that may be present in a faulty module but if there's no comms you wont see them,I suspect you've need to send it off for testing, that's the problem with a secondhand unit it too could be corrupted,at least if its tested or repaired you're starting from a known position, some of the symptoms you have gotten are indicating a failed unit. ( wheel speed sensor and no comms)

OK, I understand. Thanks for the advice.
Are there any recommendations where to send it to?

BBA Reman reconditioned an ABS unit for me for a BMW K1200S motorcycle that I had at a cost of £320 instead of a new one from BMW for £1200 and it was fine never had a problem with it and they gave a better warranty on the reconditioned unit than BMW gave on a new one!
