looking forward to buying the new Audi A4 2.0 petrol manual S line. So far there is not that many manual 2l out there. Have been to 2 dealers and sales trying to push 1.4 to me. Driving 2l B7 petrol at the moment and wants to stay with 2.0l.
Not interested in diesel( won't take a free diesel, sorry diesel drivers)
Any ideas out there if 1.4 is any decent or just sit and wait.

I've had a new Audi A4 1.4 petrol manual S Line delivered for a week and have been driving it around our local country roads and A roads. Before delivery I was concerned that the car would have a big car, small engine feel but I've been incredibly impressed with the 1.4 litre. It's smooth but not quiet when revved but it feels very peppy. In normal driving conditions it feels like a fast car, and I was coming from a E92 BMW 325i. There's some turbo lag below 1,500rpm but nothing that's really bothered me or can't be driven round. One factor to bear in mind is that Audi have taken quite a lot of weight out of the car in the B9. Another factor is that the 1.4 engine is quite a bit lighter than the other engines in the range and makes the front end feel lighter.

Test drive itt, you might be surprised. Happy to answer any other questions you may have as well.

Have to agree - having moved from a 1.8TFSI to 1.4l I can honestly say 1.4 feels like a faster and smoother engine.

I bet the 2.0 gets a lot closer to the manufacturer MPG than the 1.4.

I'm averaging 35mpg, mixture of motorway commuting and general round-town stuff. 1000 miles a month is pretty much 3 tanks @ £60+ each (Shell V-Power). Reckon the 2.0 would fare far better.

Very few cars match the manufacturer's mpg as the EU mileage test is hopelessly optimistic. I'm not expecting more than 35mp to 40mpg from my 1.4 litre petrol. As you say, I doubt there's much mileage penalty, if at all, from moving up to the 2 litre petrol. However, the lease cost of the 1.4 litre petrol was massively less than the the 2 litre, so that was never really an option for me. If was buying the car outright I would probably have looked at paying the extra £2g for the 2 litre petrol. But I remain very happy with the 1.4 litre.

Thanks all. I may have to sit tight for some time until 2.0L manual petrol comes to the market. All 2.0L on the market are Automatic

Ginvi, why not test drive a used 1.4 and see what you think. I continue to be impressed with the engine and you can get some good deals secondhand on it.
